Make videos easier on your eyes with Comfort
Comfort warms the picture, makes colors easier to tell apart, restyles the captions a site already shows, and adds a reading guide over the video. Open it on the widget's View tab, under Comfort. It needs no account.
Your Comfort choices are stored with your other settings, synced to your account only when cloud sync is on, and nothing is sent anywhere.
Where it is
| Where | What you find |
|---|---|
| Widget, View tab, Comfort | Quick switches for the four tools, and More comfort settings |
| Settings, Video Features tab, Comfort & accessibility | Every option, and Reset comfort settings |
| Settings, Keyboard Shortcuts, Comfort | Four shortcuts that start with no key |
Eye comfort
Turn on Eye comfort and move Warmth (0% to 100%) for evening watching. Only the video changes, never the page. Tick Also lower brightness to soften it more.
Turn on by itself between set times switches it on and off on its own. Set From and Until, and it starts at 21:00 and ends at 07:00 until you change them.
Colour vision
Pick a Type: Green-weak, Red-weak, Blue-yellow or No colour. Then pick a Mode:
- Make colours clearer shifts colors so they are easier to tell apart.
- Show how it looks shows the video the way someone with that color vision sees it.
Caption style
Caption style restyles the captions the site already shows, on YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Udemy, Coursera, Vimeo, Khan Academy, Video.js players and videos with WebVTT tracks. It does not create captions.
Choose a Caption look and a Text size.
| Look | What it is |
|---|---|
| Default | White text on a dark band |
| High contrast | Larger bold white text on solid black |
| Dark | Soft light text on dark gray |
| Minimal | Smaller text on a lighter band |
| Large print | Large bold yellow text |
| Colourful | Bold green text on deep purple |
| Easy reading | A plain sans-serif with wider letter and word spacing and taller lines, dark text on cream |
Reading guide
A soft band holds your eyes on one line of captions or on-screen text. Pick a Shape (Band, Line or Spotlight), then choose Stay put to keep it at one height on the video or Follow the pointer to have it move wherever your mouse goes. Height on the video sets where it sits. Strength sets how strong it is.
With your other controls
Comfort works with Video filters and the cinema colors at the same time. They stack. The extension combines them into one filter on the video, so turning on one does not turn off another.
Shortcuts
The four Comfort shortcuts start with no key: "Toggle eye comfort", "Toggle colour vision", "Toggle caption style" and "Toggle reading guide". They are optional. Give one a key in Settings, as Change a shortcut shows.
Next: Visual effects and zoom.
