Boost the audio past 100%

Audio boost raises the volume beyond 100%, up to 400%, after you sign in. Press Ctrl + Alt + U to raise the boost and Ctrl + Alt + Y to lower it.

The audio keys

KeyWhat it does
Ctrl + Alt + UBoost up by 20%
Ctrl + Alt + YBoost down by 20%
Ctrl + Alt + NNormalize on or off

The same controls are on the widget's Audio tab.

Boost

A quiet recording, such as a lecture recorded from the back of a room, stays quiet at the player's 100%, and boost takes the volume past that limit, between 100% and 400%.

Each press moves it by 20%. At 400% a loud video is very loud, so raise it a little at a time.

Normalize

Normalize reduces the dynamic range: the gap between the loudest and the quietest parts gets smaller. Turn it on with Ctrl + Alt + N for a video where the speaker whispers and the intro music does not.

Volume memory

The extension remembers the volume and the mute state per site. Set YouTube quiet and a course site loud, and each one comes back the way you left it. The Remember Volume card is in Settings, on the Video Features tab.

More audio controls

It does a lot more with the sound than make it louder: bass boost, noise reduction, vocal isolation and five more are each one button under Advanced Audio on the widget's Audio tab. The tab asks for a sign-in, so you reach them after signing in.

Audio download

Audio download saves the audio of a video as WebM or WAV. It does not save MP3. Its switch is Audio Download, in Settings on the Download & Capture tab, and the audio is processed on your device.

The three audio keys are part of the full table in Default shortcuts, and each can be moved in Change a shortcut.
