Change a keyboard shortcut

Open Settings, go to the Keyboard Shortcuts tab, and give the shortcut another key. Every shortcut on that tab can be changed, and it works signed out.

Change a key

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to the Keyboard Shortcuts tab.
  3. Find the shortcut in its section.
  4. Set the new key, with any mix of Ctrl, Shift and Alt.

The sections, in order, are Speed Control, Advanced Controls, Preset Speeds, A-B Loop, Audio Controls, Filters & Screenshot, Navigation and Bookmarks, and then Netflix Recovery Controls in its own block.

Letter and digit keys start on Ctrl + Alt so they stay clear of the site's player keys. You can take the modifiers off, and then it is up to you to keep clear of the site's keys.

One key, one shortcut

A key can belong to only one shortcut. If a key you pick already belongs to another shortcut, Settings tells you which one and takes you to it.

The message names the key, the shortcut that holds it and its section, and links straight to that shortcut so you can move it. The rule covers every set at once, so a Netflix Recovery Controls key cannot double as a general one.

Switch shortcuts off

What you switch offWhere
One shortcutThe switch on that shortcut's row
A whole section, for example A-B LoopThe switch on the section

Preset speeds

Preset speeds and their keys are edited on the same tab. Speed control covers them.

Go back to the defaults

Click Reset All at the top of the tab. It asks you first and resets the preset speeds as well as the keys.

The Netflix Recovery Controls section has its own Reset button, which resets only the Netflix keys.

Your keys on another device

Your key bindings are saved in this browser. While you're signed in they're also saved to your account, and another device picks them up the next time you open Settings on it.

Signed out, they stay in this browser. See what sign-in adds.

Limits

Four shortcuts are set by the browser: Alt + V opens the popup, Ctrl + Shift + V shows or hides the floating controls, Ctrl + Shift + P toggles Picture-in-Picture, and Ctrl + Shift + C takes a screenshot. They cannot be changed inside the extension; you change them on your browser's extension shortcuts page.

Every starting key is in Default shortcuts.

The site pages start with YouTube.
